Air Pollution is the presence of harmful impurities in the atmosphere that affect harmful in the human health or other living beings or cause of damages to the climate or to the materials. Soot, smoke, pollen, methane, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, chlorofluorocarbon are just few examples of common pollutants. Particulates- both organic and inorganic and biological molecules are also causes of air pollution.
Air
pollution is a great factor for number of pollution based diseases such as
respiratory and hart diseases, COPD stroke and lungs cancer. In present days,
human health effects for air pollutions are reaching far. It mainly affects
respiratory and cardiovascular system of human body and other living beings.
Carbon Dioxide; it is leading
greenhouse gas worst pollutants for climate changes absorbing sun heat and
warming atmosphere. Billions of tons CO₂ emitted annually by burning fossil
fuels.
Carbon monoxide; It is a toxic air
pollutants, it create smog into the air. It produces mainly incomplete burning
of fossil fuels.
Sulphur Dioxide; It (SO₂)
is a colour less toxic air pollutants. In presence of catalyst, it forms acid
rain and has a great environment impact. It is produce from burning of fossil
fuels and from power sources and eruption of volcanoes.
Nitrogen Oxides; One of the most prominent
air pollutants (NO₂, N₂O etc.), it deplete ozone layer and produce from high
temperature combustion and during storms by electric discharge discharging
biting odour.
Methane; It is a powerful greenhouse
gas, absorb sun heat and warming atmosphere. It produces from natural sources, livestock
and burning of fossil fuels.
Chlorofluorocarbon; Short name CFCs, it
deplete ozone layer which act as a shield of earth from harmful UV rays, it
also worm lower atmosphere of earth, changing global climate. It generate from
refrigerators, aerosols and solvents.
Soot; Soot is one of the main
pollutants causes several environmental problems, such as haze and
acidification of lake and river. Haze is formed when sunlight interacts with
small particles in the atmosphere. It formed from hydrocarbon burning with
uncontrolled condition.
Smoke; Smoke is an unwanted by product
of fire and a common air pollutants. It produces on firing.
Pollen; Pollen is a seasonal issue, but
the sine is of pollution. A few studies have suggested that pollen exposure on
allergy symptoms, so pollen is pollutants.
Other than all
that mention above are man-made causes, but the are some pollutants caused by
nature and are as below.
Dust; are from natural causes, results-
little vegetation or no vegetation.
Smoke; Due to wild fire or uncontrolled
biomass combustion produces huge carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide gasses and
contribute 75% of air pollutions.
Methane; emit during digestion of food
by animals, example- cattle and firm.
Volcanic Activities; which produce
sulphur and volcanic ashes.
Radon Gas; emit from radium decaying
within earth crust and is a noble radioactive gas.
Poor air quality effect human as well as other
living beings. According WHO, an estimated about 4.2 million premature death
was happened every year due to air pollution. Also, indoor smoke is an on-going
health threats to about 3 billion people who cook and heat their homes by burning
biomass, hydrocarbons and coal. Air pollution has been irked to higher rate of
diseases like cancer, heart problems, strokes, and respiratory system. Air
pollution can affect the molecule of DND, inducing both changes in the DNA sequence
and epigenetic alteration.
Air Pollution is a cause of heat waves, extreme
weather, disruption of food supply and other effects related to increased
greenhouse gasses has negative impact on human health.
All the greenhouse gases are trap heat in the
atmosphere and contribute climate changes. Human has pumped enough greenhouse
gases into the atmosphere over the last few centuries. Greenhouse gases are destroying
ozone layer which protects our from harmful sun radiation.
Some of greenhouse gases such as sulphur
dioxides, nitrogen oxides etc. a component of smog are caused of acid rain and
change climate. It also reflecting light when released in atmosphere and
sometime causing cooling that lasts for years.
Suspended air born particles (aerosol) a toxic
elements has direct effect to climate changes. They can deplete nutrients
structure in the soil and waterways, harm for forest and corps, and damage
cultural icon like statues and monuments.
It is already said about health effect, effect
on other living being and climate changes. Air pollution trolled millions of
lives every year due to air pollution based diseases. So, it’s time to take
measures to save lives and it is our responsibility to prevent pollutions.
Find causes, effects and it best solution, and
what would be your contribution to control and reduce air pollution.
Some basic measures to control air pollution
are as below;
Production
of renewable and clean energy; the best solution to prevent air pollution is to move away from fossil
fuels, replacing them with alternative like solar, wind, and geothermal energy.
Transportation
by Eco-Friendly means; shifting of conventional
vehicle to electric and hydrogen vehicle and promoting shared mobility could
reduce air pollution.
Green
Building; avoid deforesting, planning
a green building can reduce carbon footprint of air pollution.
Reduce
emission from Industries; to assist
industries to responsibly release of industrial pollutants to the environment.
Government
Activities; the government’s environmental
authorities should be act on monitoring of air pollution strictly to control
pollutants emission by different sources.
Best
Technologies; every nation
should adopt best technologies; invent new technologies and selection of right
technologies specific purpose to control air pollution.
Therefore, we have to be serious to protect of national and
global health, reduce air pollution and have any suggestion; you are most
welcome to write on “abcenvirosolutions@gmail.com”.
