People use water and water bodies for many different forms of recreation. Some recreational activities take place in the water, on the water or deep in the water, such as swimming, boating, fishing, white water rafting, and surfing. Other activities are enhanced by being close to water, such as hiking, nature viewing, and hunting waterfowl etc.

Recreational use of water in fresh and coastal waters as well as pools and spas can deliver important benefits to health and well-being. Yet, recreational water use also poses risks though exposure to pollution as well as physical risk such as drowning and injury.

Recreational Water can be categories as:-

In The Water Recreation:
Flowing is the list of “In the Water Recreation”.

  • Aqua Jogging- is cross training method using low impact resistance training. Participants wear a flotation device and move in a running motion in the deep end of a pool.
  • Synchronised Swimming- a sport in which members of a team of Swimmers perform coordinated or identical movements in time to music.
  • Diving- the sport of jumping off springboard or platform into water.
  • Swims Fins- swims Sins are fins like accessories worn on the feet, legs or hands to aid movement through the water sports activities such as swimming, body boarding, body surfing, float-tube fishing, knee boarding etc.
  • Modern Pentathlon- the Modern Pentathlon is an Olympic sports that comprises five different events; fencing, freestyle swimming, equestrian show jumping.
  • Rescue swimming- to rescue other swimmers.
  • Swimming- including pool swimming and open water swimming.
  • Synchronised Diving- is a sport in which two divers dive at the same time as a team from a three- meter springboard or a ten-meter platform. It is one type of diving which has belonged to the Olympic Games since 2000 Sydney Olympics.
  • Water Aerobic- is the performance of aerobic exercise in the water such as in a swimming pool. Done mostly vertically and without swimming in waist deep or deeper water, it is a type of resistance  training.
  • Water Basketball- is a water sports, witch mixes the rules of basketball and water polo, played in swimming pool. Teams of five players each must shoot at the goal with a ball within a certain time after gaining possession.
  • Water Polo- a seven -a-side game played swimming in a pool, with a ball like a football that is thrown into the opponent net, The game developed in Britain from about 1870.
  • Water Volleyball- played by two teams of seven swimmers each, the object being to score goals by pushing, carrying, or passing an inflated ball and tossing it into the opponent's goal, defended by a goalkeeper.

On The Water:

  • Barefoot Running- The sports or activity of running without footwear or in footwear designed to simulate the experience of being barefoot.
  • Boat Racing- is a sport in which boats, or other type of water craft, race on water. Boat racing having occurred in ancient Egypt, and is likely that people have engaged in race involving boats and other water-born craft as long as such watercraft have exist.
  • Boating- the use of boats, especially for recreation/pleasure.
  • Cable  Skiing- is a way to water ski, in which the skier's rope and handle are pulled by a electrically- driven cable or by a motorboat.
  • Canoe Polo- is one of the competitive disciplines of kayaking, known simply as "polo" by its aficionados. Each team has five players on the pitch, who compete to score in their opponent's goal, which is suspended two meters above the water.
  • Dragon Boat Racing- consist of 20 players sitting two abreast, a cox who steers the dragon boat from the rear, and a drummer who sits at the front.
  • Fishing- the recreation and sport of catching fish.
  • Flyboard- is a brand of hydro-fighting device which supplies propulsion to drive the Fly board into the air to perform a sport known Hydro Flying.
  • Jet Skiing- the sport or activity of riding on a small jet-propelled vehicle that skims across the surface of water.
  • Kayaking- is the of s kayak for moving across water.
  • Kiteboating- is the act of using a kite ring as a power to propel a boat. It is a surface water sport.
  • Kneeboarding- is an aquatic sport where the participant is towed on a buoyant, convex and hydro dynamically shaped board at a planning speed, must often behind a motor boat.
  • Parasailing- hare a person is towed behind a boat while attached to a parachute.
  • Picigin- is a traditional ball game from split, Croatia that is played on the beach. It is an amateur sport played in shallow water consisting of players keeping a small ball from touching the water. Rafting, recreational outdoor activities which use an inflatable raft to navigate a river or the other body of water.
  • River Trekking- or mountain stream climbing is a form of hiking or outdoor adventure activities.
  • Rowing- a sport that involves propelling a boat (Racing Shell) on water, using oars.
  • Sailing- the practice of navigate a sail-powered craft on water, ice or land.
  • Sit-Down Hydroflowing- is a variant on water skiing a popular water sport. When towed at speed by a powerful boat or other device.
  • White Water Rafting- are recreational outdoor activities which use an inflatable raft to navigate  a river or other water body.

Under Water:

Flowing is the list of “Under Water Recreation”.

  • Cave Diving- Cave Diving is under water diving in water-filled cave.
  • Deep Diving- is mode of under-water diving where the diver use a self-contained breathing apparatus which is called Scuba Gear.
  • Freediving- is a form of underwater diving that relies on breath-holding until resurfacing rather than the use of breathing apparatus.
  • Ice Diving- is a type of diving where the dive takes place under Ice. in this diving has only one entry and exit point into the ice.
  • Mermaiding- It is deep water diving with mermaid costume. It is very difficult to practice mermaiding.
  • Spearfishing- is a method of fishing with a stick of sharp tip. Early civilisation ware familiar with the custom of spearing fish from river and streams using sharpened sticks.
  • Underwater Archaeology- A archaeological practice is done under water to find archaeological evidence of ancient or recent past. It is a branch of Archaeology.
  • Underwater Photography- including photo and videography done under water. Digital, waterproof cameras has revolutionized for this.
